INDIANAPOLIS and PLYMOUTH, IND. – Atlas 3D, the company that is taking the “Black Art” out of metal additive manufacturing, announced Indiana-based venture development organization Elevate Ventures has invested additional funding into the startup.
Atlas 3D has reduced the black art of successfully printing designs in metal 3D printing, into a cloud-based software service called SunataTM. SunataTM, launched in Nov. 2017, provides users the proper orientation and support structure geometry to mitigate the issues of thermal distortion and successfully print their metal additive designs. Development of SunataTM was done as a part of America Makes Project #4047 and involved the real-world experience of more than 250 of the most experienced design engineers to ensure the solution was easy to use and predictable.
Elevate Ventures announced in July 2017 that Atlas 3D received an investment through the High Potential Startup Grant (HPSG) program. HPSGs are pre-seed investments that encourage entrepreneurism and help entrepreneurs overcome initial hurdles in their development. Atlas 3D utilized this initial HPSG to focus their commercialization efforts, finalize their intellectual property position and move the SunataTMsoftware from an on-premise installation to a cloud-based service. Such funding is made available through a partnership with Startup South Bend-Elkhart.
“Elevate Ventures’ continued commitment to Atlas 3D highlights the value of our technology and its impact on the metal additive printing world,” said Chad Barden, CEO of Atlas 3D. “Our cloud-based platform, SunataTM is being used at major universities, Fortune 500 companies, as well as government agencies, and this funding will expand the market development efforts we have underway to further penetrate the metal additive manufacturing community.”
Atlas 3D’s new round of funding from Elevate Ventures came through the Indiana Angel Network Fund (IANF), which supports seed and early investment in Indiana-based companies.
“Atlas 3D has made steady progress and we are eager to continue our partnership. This is a prime example of how HPSG funding throughout the state helps prepare high-potential companies for larger investments,” said Chris LaMothe, Elevate Ventures CEO. “Partnerships, like Startup South Bend-Elkhart, are critical to aiding grassroot companies as we continue to cultivate Indiana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
Atlas 3D is among a few HPSG recipients to earn IANF status in North Central Indiana.
About Atlas 3D
Atlas 3D was founded in May of 2017 and released its SunataTM software in November of 2017. Atlas 3D’s mission is to make design for additive manufacturing more scientific and less “black art”. Based on its patent pending Thermal Circuit Network, SunataTM is a tool set that computationally and automatically transforms the engineering expertise of design engineers into printable parts. While similar technologies offer simulation or orientation software, SunataTM is the only software package that provides users optimal orientation and support structures for their designs.
