IoT startup SensorHound wins TechConnect Defense Innovation Award 2017

October 17, 2017

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – SensorHound Inc. was recognized with a 2017 TechConnect Defense Innovation Award at this year’s Defense Innovation Summit, held in Tampa, Florida.

Only 15 percent of all innovations submitted to the summit were selected for this award. Rankings are based on the potential positive impact the submitted technology will have for the warfighter and national security. To learn more about the award, visit: http://defenseinnovation.us.

SensorHound, a Purdue-based startup, provides lightweight software solutions to monitor operational health and detect malicious intrusions in Internet of Things (IoT) devices like instrumented helmets, smart meters, and weapons systems. Once integrated into the devices, SensorHound’s technology automatically and proactively monitors for anomalous device behaviors and provides alerts when detection of anomalies occurs. The company also provides products to securely and reliably connect IoT devices to the cloud servers. These solutions help IoT device manufacturers and operators to significantly reduce their time to market and cost of ownership.

For more than 20 years TechConnect has provided strategic technology prospecting and commercialization services through the largest network of active innovators worldwide. In collaboration with National Security Technology Accelerator, TechConnect’s Defense Innovation Technology Acceleration Challenges represent an innovation acceleration model to rapidly prospect, vet and fund state-of-art technologies in alignment with war-fighter. This unique innovation process and ecosystem, rapidly matches key DOD problems-sets with the best technology solutions worldwide.

Vinai Sundaram, co-founder and CEO of SensorHound, said the company has developed ‘vertical-agnostic operations monitoring solutions’ for Internet of Things devices.

“Our software constantly monitors these small but critical devices to proactively detect threats and automatically send alerts with detailed diagnostic data to IoT device manufacturers and operators. It continuously tracks the health of deployed IoT devices and achieves a level of visibility previously possible only in a laboratory setting at an unbelievably tiny footprint,” he said. “Tracking the health of IoT edge devices continuously allows early detection and quick resolution of operational bugs and threats, thus significantly reducing their impact both in terms of physical damage and costs.”

The technology is licensed through the Purdue Research Foundation Office of Technology Commercialization. A video about SensorHound is available at http://youtu.be/HivLOiCJ7JE.
